Lea Pianna
Lea Pianna's cheerful demeanor is reflected in her illuminated work.  Each of Lea's pieces is a living thing, and when you look at them, many of them look back at you!  Lea's creatures are obviously organic, and have a humorous, but also slightly eerie presence.  Lea's work shares many of the qualities of theatrical stage design.  Her skills could easily transfer to the creation of sets for film or the stage.
It's alive!  Lea wins the prize for "Most creative display of the Open Studios sign."

It glows!  Each piece is illuminated from the inside with one or more strategically placed light sources.
Lea's works are constructed from fiberglass.  To form each piece, fiberglass strips are laid over a chicken wire form, which is then removed once the pieces have hardened.  The pieces are then painted in vibrant translucent colors, and eyeballs are added.
Lea's work is not haphazardly created. The above snake / plant / creatures were preceded by dozens of colored pencil conceptual sketches exploring their pattern, color, and shape.
