Bio and Statement
Lane Last is an artist living and working in Union City, Tennessee. He is also an
Assistant Professor of Art at the University of Tennessee at Martin. Lane came to the arts
and creativity early in life, as both his grandfathers were inventors and my father was an
artist of great talent. He later went on to study the Visual Arts and received a Master's
degree in Painting and New Media from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
"I began exploring the computer as an art-making tool in 1989. Even with the limitations of those early processors and programs, I saw the potential for a new and dynamic type of imagery that would challenge the traditional fine art media in terms of its sophistication of appearance and its flexibility. As all of these limitations have now largely disappeared, I am convinced the computer-generated image, or digital art, is the fine art of the future with all the possibilities from human drama to abstraction literally at our fingertips."
