David Scott Leibowitz The Shima Seiki 480 SGX was an industrial strength Paintbox similar to the Quantel, a more popular workstation in it’s day, and were used mainly for high-end digital retouching. Computer systems in this category were affectionately known by the digerati of the day as “Big Iron”, to describe their physical size, real-time speed and 256 mb of ram. It needed it’s own room, air conditioning and a trained technician to operate it. The operating system was etched into the 2ft x 3ft Wacom tablet.
