Elisa Macken
Palo Alto, California
Late Afternoon in Yosemite
pastel on paper, 22x18
The most striking feature of Elisa's work is it's fine detail.  Elisa skillfully combines thousands of tiny vibrant strokes into a luminous, highly representational image of a lone group of aspen in one of the valley's many meadows.  The light in the scene is also skillfully rendered.  The late afternoon sun caresses the granite cliffs, sparkles in the leaves, and casts long, sinuous shadows across the valley floor.
